Simen Haess Hagen, CEO and Editor of Parc Ferme shares the reasons for integrating a paywall into their Labrador CMS

Integrate a Paywall Easily with Labrador CMS for Publishers

Need a Paywall? Labrador CMS Offers Quick Integration

Published Modified

Labrador CMS offers a simple and effective way to integrate paywalls for its customers. Paywalls are an important part of modern newsroom toolbox and Labrador understands this. As such, they make integrating a paywall as simple and as fast as possible, partnering with a wide choice of different paywall providers which allows this integration for their customers to be in place quickly. This was confirmed in an interview with two of their customers, Medier24 and Parc Ferme. Simen Næss Hagen,  CEO and Editor at Parc Ferme comments on the speed of integration:"It was really a matter of days for us, maybe a week."

I have gained a lot. The income is better, there is less fallout, and that was the expectation. My impression is that I am not losing any subscribers at all.

Simple and Secure Paywall Integration

Being experts in paywall integration,  Labrador CMS allows customers to have either client-side or server-side integrations.

Client-side integrations are easier to implement but these integrations can be more easily bypassed. On the other hand, server-side integrations offer greater security and are harder for readers to get around. The trade-off is that they require more configuration effort and may be more challenging for publishers to manage on their own.

Regardless of which option customers choose, Labrador makes it simple for editors to mark content as paywalled. With just a click of a toggle in the article editor, publishers can note if content should be shown to all readers or only subscribers.

Siss Godager-Andersen, Managing director at Medier24 shares how they experienced the integration process. "It went better than expected. We had a solid plan, and the collaboration with the skilled and solution-oriented developers at Sesamy has been excellent. Before the migration, we had a meeting with two developers from Labrador who would be available on the actual migration day. On the day itself, Labrador helped us with turning the paywall on and off, as well as assisting with both major and minor design changes."

Customizable Paywall Settings

Labrador understands that customers want to have control over exactly what content is paywalled. Because of this, it allows publishers to choose exactly what part of the article is visible to non-paying readers. This includes the ability to show the main image, title, subtitle, and even a paragraph or two of the main text, offering flexibility in content visibility.

Extensive Paywall Options

Simen Næss Hagen, CEO and Editor at Parc Ferme, shares the benefits of paywall integration

As experts in paywall implementation, Labrador CMS has a comprehensive list of 13 paywalls (client-side and server-side) that they already partner with, which means the integration goes smoothly, and is a matter of days. This includes popular paywalls such as Infosoft and Piano, as well as:

For publishers that want to choose from a paywall outside of this list, Labrador can build an integration upon request, so there really are no limitations to which software they can use.

Medier24 Introduces Advanced Paywall Integration

Medier24 also chose to upgrade their Labrador CMS and add Sesamy integration to it. When asked on why behind this decision Siss Godager-Andersen says:  "With the new paywall, we have many opportunities that we did not have with the previous solution. Among other things, we will have access to much more data for our editorial teams as well as for commercial purposes. We will be able to see which articles convert to sales, what type of subscriptions are purchased, and at what price. This information is provided to us in real-time . Siss adds: "We have previously experienced a high rate of churn, but we had little information available and no features to implement automatic measures. In this paywall, there are options to connect win-back features according to our needs." Medier24 has experienced the same effect of this paywall integration as Parc Ferme, giving them a direct impact on their customer churn and retentions, as well as the option to win-back subscribers. Another important component to this decision was the need for a new and innovative subscription system, that in addition to this meets Medier24 requirements in terms of specification and price.
